Season-Best Finish at Talladega Superspeedway

Oct 20, 2014

Huntersville, NC (October 20, 2014) - Talladega Superspeedway always offers both fans and drivers a non-stop, edge-of-your seat kind of race and Sunday's GEICO 500 was no different. Reed Sorenson and the No. 36 Zing Zang Bloody Mary Mix team leave 'Dega with a season-best finish of 14th.

Saturday's qualifying session proved to be an eventful one for the 36 team. Posting a time of 189.305 mph, Sorenson initially was a DNQ (did not qualify) for the GEICO 500. But following post-qualifying inspection, Joe Nemechek's No. 29 was found to have an improperly sealed oil tank encasement. His time was disallowed, which placed Sorenson into the 43 car field.

Starting the GEICO 500 in 36th position, Sorenson and crew chief Todd Parrott had a game plan taking into consideration all of that unknowns that present themselves at 'Dega. Spotter Doug Campbell was working overtime to keep Sorenson clear as cars went three and four wide. The No. 36 pit crew were on top of their game all day which allowed Sorenson to gain positions each time he left pit road.

With two attempts to finish the race, Sorenson ran as high as third during the race. Surviving until the very end, Sorenson ended the day gaining a spot in the points and with a car unscathed.

Sorenson Said: "What a weekend! The No. 36 Zing Zang team is taking home a top 15 and we were able to get up front and compete with the leaders throughout the race. I have to extend a special thank you to Zing Zang, your support to our team has been amazing. On to Martinsville we go!"
